Waterpolo Coaches

Bob learnt his Water Polo at Amersham, London University, Aston,Glasgow and Australia before moving to North Devon in 1990. He started to get involved in coaching the mini polo when injured and became more involved as his sons James and Alex rose up through the age groups. He now organizes Kit, fixture list, teams, press reports and helps coach the U15, U17 and U19 teams. He still plays for the seniors on occasions.
Currently our best player James rose through the club but soon joined Exeter as well to get more training and play National League Water Polo. James recently qualified as a referee and coaches both the ladies and Men’s Senior team.
Graham started playing water polo for Sutton and Cheam when they were one of the most successful clubs in the Country. For Several years he has coached the Mini Polo as well as providing organisational and fund raising support. He still performs for the seniors.
Nigel learnt his water polo under Cyril Webber at Dolphins and has represented Devon at all levels. He remains one of the hardest players to mark in front of goal or to get away from when he plays defence. After succesfully coaching the Under 15s to the county title over 10 years ago he took a break from coaching duties but has now returned to help run the Under 15s. He continues to play for the senior team and help fundraise and organise.
Dan learnt his Water Polo at Barnstaple and used to have a turn of speed at Butterfly. In the Last 2 years he has helped Graham with Mini Polo and continues to play for the senior team.
Martin Purchase: Martin learnt his Water Polo at Barnstaple playing county polo and, for many years in the 1980s, ran all the teams as well as Croyde Surf Club. He is a very experienced referee and joins Bob and Graham when called upon to perform for the seniors.
Mandy Greening: Mandy learnt her Water Polo in Manchester and has played for the GB team. Having moved to North Devon with her very young family she has again taken up the game and plays Goalkeeper for the women’s team as well as helping coach the team and also coach from the pool side during the Senior Men’s games.
Stef Foster: Stef organises the women’s section with Mandy and plays for the team with her daughter Christine and Sister Jo. Her son is James Gardner. She and Jo learnt their polo at Barnstaple and have played for Devon.
Joan Joan Squire: Joan remains secretary of the swimming club and one of the Water Polo Sections strongest supporters. She manages the Table with Irene Collins as well as all subscriptions and fees.
